Fundamental research in microalgal physiology such as the structure and function of photosynthetic apparatus or structure and function of the microalgal population in different ecosystems, especially in the freshwater waterbodies; biology and cultural engineering of micro- and macro- algae; technologies for wastewater treament; biodiversity of algae in the molecular levels, molecular genetic characterisation and process, molecular marker for studying harmful and toxic microalgal diversity, extraction of natural bioactive products such as polyunsaturated fatty acid as DHA, EPA, DPA, antivirus, antiinflamatory... for medicine and using algae for medicine and aquaculture. |

| Main focus | Main focus is on the tropical biodiversity of Vietnam fresh water and marine microalgae. A 5 year program between 2005 to 2010 is using morphological and molecular techniques to classify a set target of 620 strains which will then be maintained at VACC. Research applications of the Collection include the use of microalgae as indicators of enviromental stress and utilization in aquaculture and agriculture. |
