The Microbial Culture Collection at the National Institute for Environmental Studies
Culture strains of cyanobacteria, eukaryotic microalgae, protozoa and endangered algae are maintained in the Microbial Culture Collection at the National Institute for Environmental Studies (NIES Collection).
These strains are available for educational, research and developmental purposes. NIES Collection accepts the deposition of strains, which are important for environmental as well as basic and applied researches.

Genome sequence of Spirulina platensis  NIES-39 ( Syn. Arthrospira platensis ) is available at  NITE  DOGAN     ( http://www.bio.nite.go.jp/dogan/MicroTop?GENOME_ID=apl )

NIES-2166 Coccomyxa  sp. is now available. This strains is in the process of sequencing by JGI as Coccomyxa sp. C-169. (http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/genomeprj?term=C-169
